Tracking cohorts
The cohorts you create and work with can change over time. For example, you might create a cohort containing all the patients from your base cohort who were admitted to hospital in the last three months. As time passes, patients will join, and others will leave this cohort as they are admitted and discharged from hospital. This means that the number of patients in the cohort will change. Tracking the members in a cohort over time is key when monitoring care quality and risk.
Once you have created and saved a cohort, you can choose to track it and be notified when certain changes occur. If your organization has set the relevant permissions, you can choose to receive emails about these changes. There are two types of changes that can be tracked:

When a patient joins or leaves the cohort: Any change to the members in the cohort will generate a notification email. It may be, for example, that your cohort defines a high-risk group and as soon as a patient enters the group, you wish to be notified so that certain actions can be taken.

When the cohort size falls outside bounds: You define the bounds you are interested in and once the cohort size falls outside the bounds, you are notified by email. There are many reasons to be interested in a cohort falling outside defined bounds. One example would be if a researcher wanted to track the viability of a study that required a minimum cohort size and wanted to be notified when the required number of patients to conduct the study had been met.
